[He's sitting down with a sigh, still holding the bottle.]
...It's more the Church than anything. The Church and mages have been at each other's throats for ages. Their existence stands in direct conceptual opposition to each other.
Eh. More complicated than that. They're not fighting each other on a regular basis, even, but its more like ideals clash.
It's about magic...magecraft, at the base of it. Mages believe magecraft is inherent to them and they can freely use it as they like with no limits. The Church, on the other hand, looks down on magecraft. Magic should only be an expression of a divine miracle given by the Lord. It is a disgrace to see mages claim this kind of power and use it as they do.
They're not...bad people, no. Some of my colleagues would disagree. But many mages do not work on the side of humanity. They work on their own side. Most are selfish, egocentric, and have a capacity for cruelty that is shocking.
the power of wishes seems to be able to cause nothing but grief regardless of the world. Siffrin’s eye narrows for a moment at the thought, but then he forces himself to relax. ]
Huh, people are really dumb, then. If they want something, then they should make it happen with their own hands instead of pushing it onto something else.

but also the idea of having another feelings talk is the last thing that Siffrin would like to do today, so...
they extend their hand, and show the bottle. ]
Fine.

[He's just going to yoink it to pull off the cork.]
Anyways. What do you want to talk about?
no subject
Your world, maybe? You said you knew Beryl and stuff. Does this have something to do with your Church?
no subject
[He is taking a swig, before gesturing to Siffrin.]
Let's find a place to sit. I didn't know Beryl. But I know of people like him.
no subject
[ Siffrin will probably guide Hansa to (rolls dice) the cafeteria. unlike his usual visits to the cafeteria, this time he doesn't pick anything. ]
You can tell me anything. It...sounds like you don't get along with people like Beryl?

[He's sitting down with a sigh, still holding the bottle.]

Huh, so it’s like the two sides are rivals, then? Are mages bad people?
no subject

try to swipe for the bottle! share! ]
Huh? You guys have craft, too? But that’s not one I’ve heard about anywhere.
[ that sounds like a pain, though. why be that cagey about it? ]
So what makes magecraft that special?
no subject
It allows an access to power beyond human means. You can change your shape, summon the elements, kill your enemies in wretched ways.
And then, on top of that, you can be eligible to enter certain rituals. Like a certain "war".
no subject
That sounds pretty awful. What do you need a war for?
[ GIVE HIM THEIR ALCOHOL. ]
no subject
[okay, he had his fun, he will twirl the bottle on a finger like a show off before grabbing it to hand to them]
I don't need a war. But let's say people fight...for a "wish".
no subject
[ well, that sounds dumb. Siffrin takes a swig of the bottle before handing it back to Hansa. ]
no subject
[Thanks boo. He'll take a swig too.]

[He slides the bottle back over to Siffrin.]
So, you have your own "craft", too?
no subject
Yeah, but it’s only good for slicing things. Not as cutting edge as this magecraft you’re talking about.
no subject
[STOP]
no subject
[ BOOOOOOOOO ]
no subject
[UGHHHH]
no subject
[ they’ll take another swig of the bottle, not savoring the burn. ]
But what do you do? You said you beat evildoers, but how? Do you use that “magecraft” thing, too?
no subject
[It feels nice to laugh.]
[He is making a face at the question, though.]
I would call those sacraments. But yes. I suppose you could call it magecraft...as far as how? That's a Church secret.
[He winks. It looks like a blink.]
no subject
[ not that Siffrin can do any of his crafts anyway.
but just like Hansa, they wink.
it also looks like a blink. ]
