[Yeah, he can see that theory being true. That Hua Cheng and Claude were two major players, and this was a way to get both of them preoccupied at once.]
To kill two birds with one stone. [Xie Lian can probably feel how displeased he is, bordering on anger.] This is a malicious act. You don't think it could've been Shima? He seemed pretty lax about everything.
That, I don't know. I'm going to talk to him a little later this evening - I wanted to give Shiro and Miss Izumo some time to, first.
[ considering that whole mess, when they caught him!!
but. ] I can't rule it out, considering he mentioned a major piece of evidence that we missed was relevant to the body check. [ HIS LEG.... ] But, honestly, I'm not entirely sure that Shima was working alone.
I don't think so, either. Maybe in the murder, but it was clear that someone told him to do this, and he went along with it. Whether they were an accomplice or a director has yet to be seen.
I keep lingering on the fact that he said he was the one who messed up the pub - but also, that he couldn't remember if he saw who killed Raven. I believe that second part is true, and that is probably related to a fluctuation of nova, but...
...Why would he mess it up, if he didn't already know someone was going to die there--or was already at the pub, dead?
That's what I was wondering, too. Why mess it up, since it had nothing to do with the ship? You could've just let it be. Somehow, he knew the other was involved, went to help, but the nova got tampered with, and...he just forgot.
I'm leaning towards that he had an accomplice; that perhaps they planned all of this together. But since we were only able to catch one of them, he was able to absolve the other of all guilt, simply by nature of the way the Realm functions.
[ frustrating. xie lian's expression is serious, a hand to his chin. ] ...you have heard the rumor that killers may or may not be directed to do so, yes? Virid said something along those lines the first week. I don't know if Shima was the one who was directed to do so... or perhaps if someone else was, and he was looking to provide cover, or comfort, for that person.
Yes, I heard that rumor. And I do think he learned something or was told something that justified what he did. That seems like fact. As far as where it came from...we were thinking the Leaders at first. Now...could it be this monster, whispering sweet nothings into our ears?
Maybe. I wonder what the connection between that and "splintering nova" is.
...I was with Laine for curfew. He wasn't acting particularly strange... maybe a little fidgety, but not more than anyone would be normally, knowing what could happen.
[ xie lian taps his chin. ] So many mysteries. Today, we managed to solve something, but it feels like crumbs in comparison to the grander issues that surround us, doesn't it? Not to mention, I don't think anyone feels any joy out of condemning a child, even if he was guilty...

Of course, this is all only speculation.
