It's better than getting your hopes up only to have them torn apart in front of you, as far as I'm concerned.

But really, what's the point of that? Sure, the shoe will drop. But maybe it will be tomorrow, or in a week, or in a year. If you just keep yourself in perpetual misery, you're locking yourself away from any possible happiness you can find.

I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed. With the luck I have, I'd spend all my time getting disappointed if I didn't expect it.
