I am not certain I think they were targeted from the start, yet. 'Tis more likely at this point that it was poor luck-- others being unaware of the teams their targets belonged to.

[but, well.]

Now that they have been behind for some time, however, if any who do care for the contest choose to become more aggressive-- or if any are directed to target them more specifically-- we are at the most risk.

As for the others, I asked Tiger, and was provided direction. That is how I found you; I intend to ask the next this week.

They did not tell me so directly. I was provided a hint that led me to you, so I would prepare yourself for that.

Someone who has probably heard a lot of pirate jokes.

I believe that was the point. It was given to me while Laine yet lived, as well.

That, I believe, is safer not to confirm or deny.

[an answer either way might imply that he either found they weren't with tiger or that he thinks they also are/were, and, well.]

Playing too loosely with such information seems to be part of what's causing problems.

You realize this means they may well have been paying attention to your words, when I first asked who you were tied to.

[said with the faint amusement of someone who definitely is not surprised by that info.]

As have I. Really, that may provide leads on its own if the pattern holds-- but a little direction certainly never hurts.

Nor do I. The rules aside, one never knows what may come of such things-- but they did imply locating others would help, at the least, and it seems we may need as much of that as we can stomach accepting.

[he's quiet, a moment, before he exhales a sigh.]

We may, or we may not. It all depends on how well we are able to hold together, and how long this is drawn out-- the longer it goes on, the more we lose. The more we lose, the less effective we will be. The more of us who die... well, that will have similar effects.

I suppose we are.

[he sighs as he crouches down to offer a hand to the cat. emet-selch might not want to be responsible for him or consider him his own, but the creature is pleasant enough.]

I knew, really. That it was not worth attachment. It rarely is worthwhile with humanity. And yet I had not expected it to prove true so swiftly, nor in such a way.

There is nothing to say he would have. Had he never died, he may well have passed young for any number of reasons-- but the chance for that was gone from the very beginning.

[treasure can have some pets... it's easier to let part of his focus be on this.]

What, only to have his very existence unraveled? To make it as though he never lived those years at all?

[a shake of his head, as he stops petting the cat for now.]

I would not count it a blessing, Hansa.
